Holland Trip Itinerary
21st October 1988 - 29th October 1988
Friday 21st October 1988
Manx Youth Band party assemble at the Sea Terminal at 7.45a.m. before boarding Steam Packet
ferry for Heysham. On arrival at Heysham and load coach before departing for Beaconsfield where
an evening meal has been arranged. We expect to arrive in Beaconsfield at about 6.00p.m. At
about 7.30p.m. we will leave Beaconsfield for Dover where will spend the night in one of the
Dover Youth Hostels.
Saturday 22nd October 1988
After breakfast will be at 7.30a.m. the party will leave the hostel at 8.00a.m. for the 9.30a.m.
sailing to Bologne which will take about 1 hour 45 mins. (watches forward 1 hour). Arrival in
Valkenburg is estimated at 4.30p.m. After the evening meal there will be a rehearsal.
Sunday 23rd October 1988
After breakfast depart for Beekse Bergen Safari Park, Hilvarenbeek for the morning followed in
the afternoon by a visit to the Phillips Evoluon Centre in Eindhoven. After returning to the
hotel and evening meal there will be a rehearsal.
Monday 24th October 1988
The test-piece section of the Festival takes place starting at 9.30a.m. After lunch there will
be a concert at the Heerlen shopping centre from 3.00p.m. to 4.00p.m. In the evening there is a
jazz evening organised by the Festival with fancy dress being optional. Prizes given.
Tuesday 25th October 1988
The entertainment section of the Festival takes place in Maastricht from 9.30a.m. The
presentation of prizes and certificates takes place at 8.00p.m. followed by a disco.
Wednesday 26th October 1988
Depart at 9.00a.m. for Bonn, West Germany where there will be a visit to Beethoven’s House
followed in the afternoon by a visit to Phantasialand theme park.
Thursday 27th October 1988
Depart hotel for Konigswinter which is situated on the Rhine. This will be followed by a boat
trip on the Rhine followed by a concert at 4.00p.m. in bad Neuenhar.
Friday 28th October 1988
Nothing planned for the morning but there is the possibility of playing for the mayor of
Valkenburg in the afternoon, final details to be confirmed. There will also be a visit to the
Gemeentegrott (municipal caves) in Valkenburg. The party will depart Valkenburg at 7.30p.m.
arriving in Calais at approximately midnight.
Saturday 29th October 1988
Depart Calais at 1.30a.m. arriving at Dover at 1.45a.m. (watches back 1 hour). After
disembarking transfer to coach and depart for Heysham for the 2.30p.m. sailing to Douglas
arriving at approximately 6.15p.m.
