And The Bands Played On

Welcome to the Millennium album which celebrates 30 years of the Manx Youth Band and 5 years of Manx Concert Brass. We hope that the musical content has something to suit every taste. The title reflects the continuing development of the Youth Band coupled with the successful, but demanding determination to add a second band to already busy organisation.

Over it's existence the organisation has had the usual problems associated with fund raising for instruments, uniforms etc. and has also seen some happy moments as former Youth Band members have married and had children. Some of these are now playing in the Youth Band thus ensuring the continuation of training young people to make quality music in a committed team environment.

We are especially grateful that Derek Broadbent the Band's musical advisor and a vice-president could find the time in his busy schedule to join us in the recording.

Sadly there has also been the loss of parents, partners and supporters who have steadfastly supported the organisation throughout its 30 years. Without them and indeed all those players, parents and friends who have given their time and resources to ensure its continuation to two bands would not have survived.

It has been an exciting and worthy 30 years and as we enter the 21st Century the Isle of Man is proud to have such a thriving musical organisation. Throughout all the highs and lows "...The Bands Played on..."

Recorded at Murrays Road School, Douglas, Isle of Man over the weekend of 12th to 14th May 2000. Grateful thanks to the Headmaster and Staff, especially Ron Vickers.
